Writing Again

I’m writing again! Writing is hard! It is not hard on your back or legs; it’s not even hard on your muscles in general. It’s hard on your brain!

Choosing the right words, out of the multitude of possible choices, and conveying your point of view, is a mental mind game, with your brain searching and arguing with itself until a sentence is complete.

For some, this is not worth the bother, and you see it in the lack of punctuation and capitalization. You see it in the laziness of their writing. As much as they will scream, that it isn’t important, they’re refusal to admit their laziness and their fight to prove that it is not a good marker, proves their lack of desire to gain intelligence. It’s proof.

I have an example of that confusion. I was reading a forum, looking for an answer to a problem I was having with my phone. While reading, I got distracted as I usually do, following a discussion that was not part of my search. I came upon a post asking for help and I proceeded down a rabbit hole that sticks with me today.

A girl, I don’t remember her name or the exact words of the request or answers, but the general idea is she “Wanted help with her fone.” Everything in her request was spelled properly except “phone.” Now I was looking for answers in a forum filled with people that seem to want to prove to the world, that they are EXPERTS on fixing problems with your phone. They do this free!

No one answered this girl’s plea for help. After some passing of time, she doubled down. “Why won’t someone help me with the problem with my fone?” She still received no answer, until on small reply said: “We only help with phones here.”

Instead of rejoicing and explaining her problem, she tripled down and berated him. “I asked about my “Fone”” she screamed, “That’s how I spell it!”

That was the end of the post, no one answered her question, and she left, believing that everyone in the group, maybe hundreds, were all rude to her. All the people there, believed her to be rude to them.

If one hundred people believe you are rude, and in response you believe one hundred people are rude. You are not just wrong, you are stupid.

I said “stupid,” I didn’t say dumb. A dumb person, try as they might, cannot get the answer from their brain. It is not from a lack of trying; the answer they seek is just not there.

A stupid person, on the other hand, does not have that excuse. They could reason the problem out but choose not to. they choose an easy quick answer instead of doing any brain work that may enlighten them. Quick reasoning is an excellent choice if you’re in a fight or flight situation, but that’s not the case in a forum where you are requesting help.

All of those proceeding words lead me to here. I am writing again. After you write a book, unless you are rich, you must do all the things that preclude publishing. From proof reading to marketing, going past submissions and a synopsis, there are so many non-writing tasks to fulfill before you can let that book go and leave your mind. You may then ready your brain for the next assignment, and think about something completely different. It’s hard, but that’s what “I’m writing again,” means. If you read this to the bottom, congratulations, you worked your brain and learned something in the process. Pat yourself on the back, because “You’re not stupid.”
